Velux with Insulated Flatroof

This job demonstrates how we fitted a Velux window into an existing flat roof installation. The roof received a complete overhaul with covering and insulation.

This type of retrofit gives an increase of approximately 60% saving on heat retention meaning that jobs like this not only pay for themselves overtime but actually can help the customer save move in the long run.

The entire installation was completed in less than 48 hours with minimal disruption to the client.

Conservatory Conversion

Glass conservatories are very common but have some major design flaws which result in the conservatory becoming a dead space for most of the year. We know this from personal experience and also from listening to our customers. Glass conservatories can be susceptible to very costly leaks. They are also too cold to use in the winter and become far too hot for comfort in the summer. We acknowledge that there is a middle ground where conservatories can be comfortable but, in our experience, if the space is unused, even for a little while, it tends to be forgotten about. For us at C&F Developments, this is a terrible waste of what could be one of the best spaces in the home.

The pictures below demonstrate our solution to this problem. We put a well insulated, rubber covered, fixed blanket cover over the entire glass roof. Adapting a conservatory by putting a fixed roof on it can transform this space into something that will benefit the whole family.

First of all, this ensures that, during the winter, the space can be heated and maintained much more easily. Trying to heat a regular conservatory is a futile effort. There is so much heat loss through the glass roof that it proves to be an impossible task. As can be seen from the photos below, we create a blanket insulation with Kingspan Insulation Board so there is no breaks in the insulation whatsoever and a single piece of rubber is used to cover the entire area. Not only does this make the conservatory the warmest it has ever been, it also gives the owner a 25 year piece of mind.

Secondly, this new roof cover provides very welcoming shade during the summer. You still get the magnificent light from the glass walls but the area is well shaded when you need it most; the scorching midday summer sun. Even the Irish weather gives us some beautifully warm summer days. However, glass conservatories suffer from, quite literally, the greenhouse effect. While it may be the perfect environment for plants, it is not so pleasant for people. A conservatory roof conversion by C&F Developments will negate this problem. It may seem a simple solution but we have seen, first hand, the amazing benefits this bring. Time and time again, our customers have told us how happy they are with the conservatory conversion. People now use the space all year round for a multitude of uses ranging from a new play area for the kids, or grandkids, to a reading room or study.

In our opinion, a conservatory conversion using Firestone RubberCover is an economically sound and very practical way of increasing the usable space in your home. Please don’t hesitate in contacting us if would like some no-obligation advice on whether this type of conversion is suitable for you.

Irish Ferries RubberCover Instalation

This job was one of our prouder moments. Irish Ferries contacted us regarding a RubberCover application on the conservatory roof of the ferry on their Rosslare to Pembroke route. Throughout many weeks of consultation and requirements gathering, all parties involved were satisfied that a Firestone RubberCover installation would be the best application for this job.

There were many factors involved in helping form this decision. Some of the critical factors in this decision process were waterproofing and maintenance. Firestone RubberCover is guaranteed to form a waterproof membrane when professionally applied. As for maintenance, this installation is expected to last at least 30 years and we have implemented an annual visual check on the installation for extra safety.

The Irish Sea is known for it’s weather. While it may have it’s beautiful moments, it also has the capacity to throw gales and storms at those who wish to cross her. Regulars of this crossing will attest to seeing some of the harshest weather that nature can muster. It’s not just wet, it can be a biblical level of rain. The conservatory roof of this boat takes the brunt of this chaotic weather and it needs to be tough. This is where Firestone RubberCover takes it’s place.

Firestone RubberCover has been proven to withstand the harshest weather that nature can deliver. And it does it time and time again. It has been used, and tested, for decades by a countless number of people. If you want to to a job done once, and then count on it fulfilling it’s purpose, then Firestone RubberCover is the product for you. Let C&F Developments professionally install this weatherproof membrane and give yourself the satisfaction of knowing you have the best protection possible.
