Glass conservatories are very common but have some major design flaws which result in the conservatory becoming a dead space for most of the year. We know this from personal experience and also from listening to our customers. Glass conservatories can be susceptible to very costly leaks. They are also too cold to use in the winter and become far too hot for comfort in the summer. We acknowledge that there is a middle ground where conservatories can be comfortable but, in our experience, if the space is unused, even for a little while, it tends to be forgotten about. For us at C&F Developments, this is a terrible waste of what could be one of the best spaces in the home.
The pictures below demonstrate our solution to this problem. We put a well insulated, rubber covered, fixed blanket cover over the entire glass roof. Adapting a conservatory by putting a fixed roof on it can transform this space into something that will benefit the whole family.
First of all, this ensures that, during the winter, the space can be heated and maintained much more easily. Trying to heat a regular conservatory is a futile effort. There is so much heat loss through the glass roof that it proves to be an impossible task. As can be seen from the photos below, we create a blanket insulation with Kingspan Insulation Board so there is no breaks in the insulation whatsoever and a single piece of rubber is used to cover the entire area. Not only does this make the conservatory the warmest it has ever been, it also gives the owner a 25 year piece of mind.
Secondly, this new roof cover provides very welcoming shade during the summer. You still get the magnificent light from the glass walls but the area is well shaded when you need it most; the scorching midday summer sun. Even the Irish weather gives us some beautifully warm summer days. However, glass conservatories suffer from, quite literally, the greenhouse effect. While it may be the perfect environment for plants, it is not so pleasant for people. A conservatory roof conversion by C&F Developments will negate this problem. It may seem a simple solution but we have seen, first hand, the amazing benefits this bring. Time and time again, our customers have told us how happy they are with the conservatory conversion. People now use the space all year round for a multitude of uses ranging from a new play area for the kids, or grandkids, to a reading room or study.
In our opinion, a conservatory conversion using Firestone RubberCover is an economically sound and very practical way of increasing the usable space in your home. Please don’t hesitate in contacting us if would like some no-obligation advice on whether this type of conversion is suitable for you.
